2017 Candidates for President

Hi! I’m Jenny McLean ~ candidate for SaVRID President. 

I cannot believe I have been an interpreter over 20 years.   I am extremely proud to say I have been a SaVRID member for the majority of that time. 

I received my BS degree from Northeastern University in Interpreting, in 2002.  I hold a CT, CI, NAD IV and ASLPI (level 4).   I am currently on the Professional Development Committee and I had to recently remove myself from the Elections Committee due to ~ running for President.

From 2002-2004, I served as Vice President for SaVRID.  I also chaired the fundraising committee and acted as the coordinator for the student volunteers & ASL interpreters for our meetings and workshops. 

I am excited to be back “home” from living in Atlanta, GA for 4 years.  I had the opportunity to experience another state, a new community, a different RID chapter and be a sponge to the amazing Deaf role models while I worked as a part time interpreter at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf.  I feel my time in the South ~ re-ignited a fire in me!

Per the ByLaws (Article II)  The Mission Statement reads: Exchange ideas, opinions, and experiences concerning interpreting; Further the development of effective communication skills in interpreting; Strive for the attainment of the highest standards in these communicative skills; Act as a body to advance professional and ethical standards for interpreters; Advocate for professional recognition and treatment of interpreters; Uphold the communication rights of Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people.

I hope you give me (along with the rest of the board) the opportunity to take SaVRID’s mission to the next level!  I look forward to volunteering on the board as your next SaVRID president.
