2017 Candidates for Secretary

Hello! My name is Bill Sylliaasen-Lee, and I am running for the position of SaVRID Secretary.

I was born and raised in Sacramento, and attended both Sacramento City College and American River College.

I have been a Nationally Certified interpreter for 17 years; currently the certifications I possess are the NAD IV, NIC, and EIPA 4.7.  I am also currently serving on both the SaVRID By Laws and Professional Development Committees.

Through my years in this profession - I found my passion - working with K-12 students. Should I be elected as Secretary, I would work to welcome as many K-12/Educational interpreters to SaVRID as possible, as they have such a potential impact on the future leaders of the Deaf community. 

As an agency owner, I feel that I also have a unique perspective on the needs in our community, ie: the gap between IPP graduation and certification, lack of diversity within the interpreting community, and the need for there to be a partnership between the Deaf community we serve and the Interpreting community, etc..

In part, Section 4.3 of the SaVRID By Laws states: “…The Secretary shall keep record of attendance at meetings; supervise the keeping of all corporation records;…”.   Having to do all of these duties within my own company, I feel that this is a skill set I could apply with expertise to the position of Secretary. I look forward to using all of my experience and resources to help SaVRID be the best it can be.
